The voice of the rain short summary :

The poem is in the form of an imaginative description of the poet's encounter with the rain. The poet asks the rain his identity. The rain replied that he was the poem of the earth and that is why the poem is called ' The voice of the rain '. The rain gives back life to the earth which is its birthplace. Without it, the unborn seeds would have remained mere seeds. The rain says that it purifies the earth and makes it beautiful and serene.

The poet compares the rain to a song. A song rises from the heart of a poet and the poet showers it's strains on the earth.

Ans : The poet asked the rain who he was then the poet received answer from the rain and felt wonder. This way the meaning of the phrase " Strange to tell."


3. There is a parallel drawn between rain and music. Which words indicate this ? Explain the similarity between the two.

Ans : The last two lines of the poem have similarity between the rain and music. The poet said that he goes to his own origin at last. Similarly the rain also goes to it's birth place after getting free from the sky.

Ans : The rain removes the dry condition of the earth and provides water to sprout the seeds. The rain also descend the earth.

Ans : The rain forms at the upper region of the sky. When the water vapor rises very high they form the clouds. Water droplets bump into each other as they gather in a cloud. When droplets bump into each other it condenses and become heavy and fall down as rain on the earth.

Ans : The rain removes droughts and dust. Rain washes every thing on earth. It gives life to seeds and purifies and beautifies every thing on the earth.

Ans : The poet's description of the cyclic movement of rain is scientifically true. She rises from the land and deep sea in the form of water vapor. In the sky she cools down and takes the form of cloud and then comes down as showers to the same place where it had originated. Thus, the cycle is poetically and scientifically complete.


9. Why does the poet composes the last few lines within brackets ?

Ans : The poet composes the last few lines within brackets because the last few lines were not the part of the conversation between the poet and the rain as the part is not in musical tune.


10. What does the rain do day and night ? (3 mark)

Ans : The cloud rises day and night from the land and bottomless sea in to the sky. The vapors cooldown in the sky and take the shape of showers and rain. The rain washes away all the drought, dust and other impurities of earth. It also beautifies the earth day and night endlessly. The rain gives back like to the place of its origin.

Ans : The rain is surely the poem of the earth because it has the task of bringing joy, happiness and life. The raindrops fall over drought - strikes earth and brings new life to the land. Without rain the seeds lying in the earth remain hidden and unborn. They sprout only when it rains. The rain makes the earth beautiful and serene.


12. What will happen if it does not rain ?

Ans : Without rain the sprouted seeds would have remained mere seeds. They would have remain unsprouted. The drought, dust and other impurities of earth will remain unwashed if it does not rain.
