1. What does Verrier Elwin say about the tradition of courtesy and hospitality in the modern world ? What advice does he give to the people of Assam on this point ?

Ans : According to Verrier Elwin the tradition of courtesy and hospitality is unhappily a rare thing in the modern world of competition and very rivalry and hurry.
 But comparing to Assam the author feels intoxicated with the grace and charm of the people. He is also happy to see the certain beauty in the human relation in Assam. He has never found the friendliness like Assam though he travelled many places. The author never wants the lose of such humble things in Assam.

2. What difference does Verrier Elwin draw between the game sanctuaries of Kenya and Kaziranga ?

Ans : Verrier Elwin has observed some serious differences between the game sanctuaries of Kenya and Kaziranga. In Kenya and Tanganyka there is a sort of tradition that everybody should co-operate to make the sanctuaries a success. A lot of money is spent on them and no one dreams of poaching. One can see the hundreds of giraffes, zebras, ostriches, wild elephants and even moving about near the road in perfect confidence. These animals treat man as their friends but in Kaziranga he found an entirely opposite picture. The animals in Kaziranga don't feel safe. They always fear the man.

3. What appeal does the author make to the scholars of Assam concerning the songs and poems of the state ? Why does he make this appeal ?

Ans : The author puts question to the Assamese people that how many books and collections do they make on the song and poems of Assam country side. He requested the scholar to do something to record them.
 He makes this appeal because these songs and poems in the countryside of Assam are rapidly disappearing. The school boy prefers Jazz music from the hollywood and naturally the local songs of Assam will soon disappear.

4. Why, according to Verrier Elwin, should wood carving be taught and encouraged in our educational centres ?

Ans : Verrier Elwin has praised the wood carvings done by Konyaks, Maos and Marams, the Angamis and Phoms. Some of the wood carvings done by the people and extraordinary vigour and beauty and people should not let it be lost. The author wants that the art of wood carving should be taught and encourage in our educational institutions so that the beautiful art remains alive and does not die with the old artisans and craftsman.

5. "You have a great treasure there" - What treasure is Verrier Elwin referring to and what is his suggestion about the treasure ?

Ans : Verrier Elwin has found a great treasure of old culture among the hill people of Assam. He has asked the hill people of Assam not to be ashamed of their old culture, much of which noble and beautiful. He has praised the good task, the sense of colours and forms, the delight in beauty the love of rhymes the right tone of music of the people. His suggestion was that such beautiful things should never be look down upon and thrown away easily. Such things grow out of ancient soil and once they are gone they cannot be recovered.
